Wine and Family. The Perfect Pairing.

Founded in 1972 and family-owned and -operated since then, Scheid Family Wines is a story of shared values and memorable wines, decades in the making.

Two Siblings. One Vision.
Today, our operations are led by Scott and Heidi Scheid, a brother-sister duo dedicated to leading the wine industry in quality, innovation, and sustainability.
With Scott as President and CEO, and Heidi as Executive Vice President, the Scheids are immersed in all aspects of the family business. But they didn’t grow up that way. Both siblings ventured far off the vineyard grounds to develop their business acumen—Scott, as a successful options trader on Wall Street; Heidi, first in the restaurant industry before adding finance and Big Four consulting to her resume.
Eventually, the call of the vines—and the call from their father—brought them to Monterey, where they could combine their business experience with their love of wine.

Al Scheid, The Man Who Started It All.
Our business began when Al Scheid, a Harvard graduate and entrepreneur, saw the limitless grape-growing potential of the Salinas Valley. But his legacy in the winemaking industry goes beyond laying the groundwork for Scheid Family Wines.

Al became a leader and uniter of California grape growers, advocating for their collective voices to be heard in a time when wineries held all the power. In the process, he co-created the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG), helping to put all of Monterey County on the viniculture map.
He was also a fierce advocate of the annual Grape Crush Report, which brought price and volume transparency to wine grape growers who needed that stability.
Before Al Scheid bought his first acres of vineyard ground in 1972, he was drawn to the idea’s two-fold potential—an ideal, untapped wine region and the ability to attract both outside investors to provide capital and large wineries to
purchase the grapes.

The grape growing operation quickly grew from 10 acres to a few thousand, from a single grape buyer to a host of winery clients. After three decades of building a reputation for premium grape-growing for some of the industry’s most respected wineries, we built a winery of our own to start producing contracted wine for these same clients, becoming the backbone of hugely successful wine
brands.
Another decade later, we started branding and selling bottles under our own unique labels, creating the first Scheid Family Wines brands.
